SILVERSTREAM WILD DOMINATE PREMIERSHIP OPENER WITH CRUSHING 45-21 WIN IN DURBAN

DURBAN – The Silverstream Wild have kicked off their WFRXXXI Premiership campaign in spectacular fashion, securing a dominant 45-21 victory over the Durban Sports Club on their home turf.

Powered by an unstoppable hat-trick from powerhouse loose forward Peter Lakai, the Wild put on a clinical display of attacking rugby and laser-focused discipline to silence the local crowd and claim maximum points in Round 1. All-Black Jordie Barrett showed his class with a superb brace of tries and a flawless kicking display (6/6 conversions, 2 penalties), while Isia Walker-Leware rounded out the six-try blitz.

Silverstream Wild Head Coach Scott Waldrom expressed immense pride in how his squad handled the hostile away environment so early in the season.
"Winning in Durban is one of the toughest asks in professional rugby, so to come away with a performance like that in Round 1 is incredibly pleasing," said Waldrom. "Our execution in the clinical zones was sharp, and guys like Peter [Lakai] and Jordie [Barrett] really stood up to drive us forward. However, it's a short turn-around this week, and we can't afford to get complacent."

Club Captain Siya Kolisi echoed his coach’s sentiments, praising the squad's relentless work rate and defensive pressure.
"The boys showed massive character out there today," Kolisi said. "Playing back in South Africa is always deeply personal for me, and I knew Durban would bring a physical fight. We matched that intensity from the first whistle.
It’s a great start to our WFRXXXI campaign, but our focus instantly shifts to Wednesday. We know a wounded Wellington team is going to bring everything they have."

There is no time for extended celebrations for the Wild as they face a rapid turnaround. The team immediately shifts its focus to a highly anticipated mid-week clash against the Wellington Dolphins this Wednesday. The Dolphins will be desperate to bounce back after suffering a tough 40-22 defeat at the hands of the Brisbane Pirates in their opening round.
