The Peninsula Whalers overcame a chaotic, error-ridden opening period to secure a comprehensive 27–8 victory over Georgia, inspired by a masterclass from first five-eighth Fergus Burke and a dynamic brace from loose forward Dalton Papali'i.
The match did not start according to script for the Whalers. Georgia immediately forced errors, capitalizing on an early penalty and a sharp run by Mikheil Alania, who slotted a drop goal just two minutes in to put the visitors up 0–3. The Whalers struggled for fluency throughout the first half-hour, with Fergus Burke uncharacteristically dropping two balls early on, and unforced errors keeping the hosts pinned deep inside their own 22.
Thankfully, the Whalers' scrum came to the rescue, securing crucial tighthead wins to relieve the pressure. Once the pack settled, Tahlor Cahill and George Bell began dominating the rucks, shifting the momentum. Burke shook off his early handling errors to slot two crucial penalties in the 22nd and 36th minutes, edging the Whalers into a 6–3 lead.
The breakthrough came just before the break. Launching a blistering attack from inside the Georgia 22, the Whalers hammered the line until Dalton Papali'i crashed over for his first try of the match. Burke added the extras to send the sides into halftime with a 13–3 advantage.

The conversion failed, leaving the score at 20–8.
The final 20 minutes turned into a brutal, tactical affair. Timoci Tavatavanawai threatened to break the game open with a massive run, but handling errors from both sides traded possession back and forth. With just six minutes left on the clock, Georgia spilled the ball deep in their own territory yet again. The Whalers pounced, and Fergus Burke capped off his influential performance by slicing through to score under the posts, converting his own try to put the final nail in the coffin at 27–8.
