Whalers bounce back with a Defensive Master Class
The Peninsula Whalers bounced back from consecutive defeats to upset the previously unbeaten Leeds Tigers with a defensive masterclass on their own turf.
Led by vice-captain and second five-eighth Ryan Crotty, the Whalers' defensive unit stepped up massively, rectifying the costly lapses that plagued them over the previous two matches. In a gritty 17–0 shutout victory, the Whalers' French international winger, Louis Bielle-Biarrey, opened the scoring with an early try.
The brilliant blindside move was sparked by a sharp play from halfback Dylan Pledger. Crotty then sealed the match midway through the second half, showcasing his class by breaking straight through the Tigers' defensive line to score.
The only dampener on the victory was a knee injury to Max Jorgensen, who started at centre this week.
Early reports suggest he will be sidelined for the next three to four weeks. The Whalers now return home looking to carry this winning momentum into Round 5.
