Pioneers Welcome old Foes
AKAROA — The Peninsula are scheduled to be aprt fo an intriguing double-header this week in Akaroa to kick off round one of the WFR Conference one, featuring a highly anticipated, free-flowing encounter between the Peninsula Pioneers and South American stalwarts, the Buenos Aires Bombers.
Pioneers assistant coach "Tank" Mathews expressed immense excitement about his squad's potential ahead of the season opener."I'm really looking forward to unleashing this side," Mathews said. "We pushed the Whalers close in the Akaroa Cup. Romain (Ntamack) was very impressive guiding us around the field. There's a lot of local talent in this side, and they've really enjoyed the input from the imports so far.
Make no bones about it, the Bombers will be tough, and it's going to be a real experience for these guys."Mathews added that he expects a massive performance from Freddie Douglas at number eight, nand oting, "And we've yet to see Moefana let loose in midfield" yet."
