Raise The Black Flag
2026-06-01 16:27:47
Every new club enters WFR with dreams. Few survive.
Brisbane Pirates arrive in Conference 1 with no history, no trophies and no guarantees.
What they do have is belief. The Pirates are not expected to challenge immediately.
Coach Andy "Skull" Head wouldn't have it any other way.
"Nobody owes us respect."
"We'll earn it."
"One game at a time."
PIRATES LOOK BEYOND THE SCOREBOARD
The Brisbane Pirates may have finished their pre-season campaign without a victory, but inside the club there is little sign of panic.
As a brand-new franchise entering its first World Fantasy Rugby season, the focus has been on combinations, systems and culture rather than results.
Head Coach Andy "Skull" Head believes significant progress has already been made.
"Nobody remembers pre-season."
"What matters is who you become during the season."
The Pirates faced perhaps the toughest preparation imaginable, twice taking on established Premiership outfit Durban Sports Club before pushing Conference contender Silverstream Wild all the way in a narrow five-point defeat.
The final performance in particular has given supporters reason for optimism.
"That match showed who we can become."
"Now we need to do it every week."
Round One awaits.
So do the Perth Reds.
